Overview

Card Guys is an independent trading card shop on Upper Manor Road in Paignton, opened by two collectors, Jake and Dan, on Pokémon Day. They needed a website that did the job a shopfront cannot — reach people searching for a card shop across Torbay and Devon, explain exactly what happens when you walk in, and get them through the door.

We built a fast, brochure-style site with a dedicated page for each side of the business: buying in store, selling a collection, trading, grading submissions, and events. The tone stays personal and community-first rather than corporate, with the owners front and centre. Because the shop trades in person rather than online, every page routes to a call, a WhatsApp message, or a visit instead of a checkout.

Key challenges

  • ·Explaining five distinct services — buy, sell, trade, grading and events — without burying the shop itself
  • ·Building trust for a new independent business with no online trading history
  • ·Driving in-store footfall and WhatsApp enquiries rather than online orders
  • ·Competing for local search around Paignton, Torbay and wider Devon
  • ·Keeping stock-dependent content accurate when inventory changes daily

Solutions implemented

  • ·Gave each service its own page with a clear, scannable structure and a single next step
  • ·Led with the owners’ story, the storefront, and real photography from inside the shop
  • ·Made call and WhatsApp the primary actions site-wide, with a persistent header contact link
  • ·Structured pages and metadata around local search intent for Paignton and Torbay
  • ·Wrote stock sections around categories rather than individual items so the content stays true
  • ·Built mobile-first with a compact drawer navigation, since most visitors arrive on a phone
